Saturday the 21st of November was our very first online fundraiser event! The talented Doctors of Gaming, Drs. Derp, Steve, and Joe brought fun and excitement to help raise awareness about our cause, to help people in need of PPE.

Doctors of Gaming was originally created by Steve and his wife back in 2016.

Event Program

Although the gaming world has evolved since the eighties, we still feel nostalgic when we think of the classics. After all, old will always be gold. This is why we were so ecstatic when Dr. Derp (Doc_Derp_MD) played Donkey Kong as the kickstarter to our event.

Dongkey Kong by Dr. Derp (Doc_Derp_MD)

DKC was first released in 1981 as an arcade machine game, and it was amazing to see how much it has evolved throughout the years and how much fun it was to watch Dr. Derp play the classic game.

The game features a gorilla who claims food as rewards and wrestles with beasts. The high-level gaming skill that Dr. Derp has for the game was watched for an hour straight and helped us generate plenty of donations within the first hour!

Gear 5 by Dr. Steve

Next up, we had Dr. Steve Jamesthe co-founder of Doctors of Gaming, showcasing his skills while playing Gears 5. Gears 5 is the fifth installment of the Gears of War series released in 2019 and has proven to be a very admitted game among a wide range of gamers despite its young age! The stream by Dr. Steve demonstrated the appeal of the game; we just couldn’t get enough!

Rocket League by Dr. Joe

Last but certainly not least, our third game in the event by the talented Dr. Joe was the iconic Rocket League. Such an exciting game demanded that eyes were glued onto the screen for the duration of the stream, which combines the passion for vehicles and soccer and made this unique game a hit for many gamers.

Gaming to Fight PPE Shortage

The games featured at our event had unique plotlines:

  • war strategy to defeat enemies in Gears 5,
  • soccer-playing vehicles had to achieve their goals in Rocket League,
  • and family support was a necessity in Donkey Kong.

These are ‘good deeds’ in the virtual gaming world. When reflecting upon reality, it becomes clear why gamers have a massive footprint in donations and charity fundraising during the pandemic. Again, we would like to send a massive shout out to the talented people at Doctors of Gaming and our dedicated PPE Volunteers. Both parties came together to create an event for a good cause

In a world where there are massive struggles with public health during a pandemic, gamers have played a significant role while gaming. They have been doing their best to save the world by using their strength as gamers, playing the characters they love.
